Memorial Jewellery Information

Memorial Jewellery Information

All of the jewellery designs you see on my website can be created as memorial pieces, using a tiny amount of ashes, hair or fur as well as other sentimental inclusions, or as symbolic pieces without inclusions. These pieces are usually created to honour someone (or a much‑loved pet) who has died.
I’m Kathy, working from my small home studio in Bayles, Victoria. Many of my clients are local, but I also regularly work with families throughout Australia by post. Together, we choose the style and approach that feels most gentle and supportive for you.
Many people find it helpful to know the story behind my memorial work. If you’d like to, you can read my story on the About Me page, where I share more about my own loss and how this studio came to be.

Memorial or symbolic – your choice

  • Memorial pieces can hold a tiny amount of ashes, hair, fur or other inclusion to honour someone who has died.
  • Symbolic pieces are created without inclusions, but still honour a person, baby or pet in a way that feels meaningful.
  • You’re always welcome to ask questions or take your time deciding — there is no right or wrong way to do this.
I also create other meaningful pieces, such as jewellery that honours breastfeeding journeys or other tender seasons of life. These are not always memorial pieces, but they can still hold deep personal meaning.

Working with me from anywhere in Australia

  • My studio is based in Bayles, Victoria.
  • I use carefully packaged new inclusion kits sent by post, so your precious inclusions can travel safely to and from my studio.
  • Many of my clients are interstate, so it’s very normal for us to work together by post.
If you’re not sure whether a particular design can be made as a memorial piece, or you’re wondering about using a different type of inclusion, you’re always welcome to contact me and ask. I’m here to help you find what feels right for you.

INCLUSIONS:

Sending ashes, hair, fur or other inclusions to my studio

I know that the idea of posting your precious inclusions can feel very confronting. This is completely normal. I’ve designed my process to be as simple and gentle as possible, and I treat every inclusion as if it belonged to my own family.

Here’s how it usually works:

  1. We choose your design together
    • You select the ring, pendant or keepsake that feels right for you.
    • If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to contact me and talk through options before you decide.
  2. I send you a small inclusion kit (let me know if this is not required)
    • Your kit includes labelled containers or bags, clear printed instructions and a return envelope.
    • You only need to send a tiny amount — usually about a 1/4 of a teaspoon of ashes, or a small lock of hair or fur.
  3. You prepare and return your inclusions
    • You place the ashes, hair or fur into the containers, following the simple step‑by‑step instructions.
    • Everything is clearly labelled with your name and order details.
    • You pop the kit into the return envelope and send it back to my studio by post.
  4. I care for your inclusions in my Bayles studio
    • When your kit arrives, I check and log it carefully.
    • I work with one person’s inclusions at a time, using gloves and a clean, sanitised workspace.
    • Only a small amount is used in your piece; any remaining ashes, hair or fur can be returned to you or used for a small extra keepsake if we’ve discussed that together.
  5. Your piece is created and returned to you
    • I create your memorial piece in my Bayles, Victoria studio, keeping you updated along the way where possible.
    • When it’s finished, your jewellery is carefully packaged and posted back to you, along with any agreed remaining inclusions.
If you feel anxious about posting ashes, hair or fur, you are not alone. Many of my clients have felt the same way. You’re very welcome to contact me before you send anything, so we can talk through the process and make sure it feels as safe and gentle as possible for you.
