Deciding on your Resin Stone look.

SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN ORDERING MEMORIAL OR OTHER JEWELLERY

Firstly, I refer often to INCLUSIONS. This means the items you choose to have included in your stone e.g. cremation ashes, hair, fur, petals etc. If you have something you’re not sure if I could use in your stone don’t hesitate to ask me. Secondly, the word BEZEL refers to the part of the jewellery piece that will hold the stone I make.

You can definitely choose to not have a colour in your resin stone leaving it clear with just inclusions, or I can create most colours using powdered tint, liquid tints and pastes.

The colour I create can be used solely in the base of the stone whilst leaving the inclusions in a clear layer above the colour to make the inclusions fully visible. Alternatively the inclusions can be mixed in a little bit with the colour I create depending on your preference for the appearance of your stone and what you want visible to yourself and others.

But first you need to consider the following with the inclusion of Ashes.

With the use of Ashes it will depend on how visible you want the ashes. I like to offer 3 categories of visibility
  • High (very visible & the focal point)
  • Medium (less visible but visible when you look closely)
  • Low (not visible but if you look hard enough you may see some)

VISIBILITY EXAMPLES (also see Galleries in main menu)

LOW visiblity examples

If you order a crown point ring or pendant you can have the option to have the Ashes visible at the back instead of at the front as these do not have a solid back but a frame type back

Consider also whether you would like larger or very fine Ashes to be used, as the Ashes will usually have a variety of sizes for me to work with.

FACT
The variance in colour & size of Ashes results from multiple factors including the place of cremation, the time since the cremation, age at time of cremation, and exposure to air.

The colour of the Ashes can vary quite a bit and this may or may not affect the colour you want the stone to be.  As an example when White is chosen as the colour of the stone, the colour of the Ashes, whether on top in a clear layer or mixed with the white, can make it difficult to keep it white as they can “grey” the tint.

The best option in that case may be to have a clear layer for only light coloured Ashes if you want them visible or in the base layer under a colour layer if you don’t want them visible.

FACT
I only need as little as a quarter of a TEASPOON to make several stones or more and any remaining Ashes after completing your order will be returned to you.

COLOUR
If you have a particular colour or colours in mind please chat with me and explain. An image is most helpful that you can share with me.   I can make most colours using combination of colours and different tints.

Please keep an open mind on colour choices and note the following :-

All colours will vary depending on your inclusions in the stones.
  • A colour will look different if it has say Hair in it to how it will look with Ashes in it.
  • The colour of Ashes can vary a lot.
  • the amount of Ashes used can affect how the stones look.
  • A colour may look different with different extra options such as Crystals, Crushed Glass, Petals etc in it
  • Consider how translucent or opaque you want the colour to be.
  • Consider what level of visibility you want the ashes or other inclusions to be

  • Remember to look through the various galleries found in the main menu for some different looks
  • Most of all, it’s so very important to take your time and not rush the decisions
