What Can Go Into a Memorial Resin Stone? A Guide to Inclusions
One of the most common questions I receive at Harris Wood Creative Studio is: "What can I actually put into my memorial stone?" It's a great question — and the answer is more personal and varied than most people expect.
A memorial resin stone is a handcrafted keepsake that holds something precious from your loved one — human or animal — preserved forever within a stunning, jewellery-quality stone. Here's a guide to the most common inclusions I work with.
🌿 Ashes (Cremation Ash)
Ashes are the most common inclusion I receive. Whether from a person or a beloved pet, a small amount of cremation ash is carefully and respectfully incorporated into your resin stone. You only need a very small quantity — I’ll send you an Inclusion Kit with everything you need to safely package and post your ashes to me if you need it.
💇 Hair
Hair is a deeply personal inclusion that works beautifully within resin. A small lock of hair — from a person or an animal — can be set within the stone, sometimes visible as a fine strand, other times blended more subtly into the design. I can work with hair from humans, dogs, cats, horses, and other animals.
🐴 Horse Hair
For equine lovers, horse hair is a particularly meaningful inclusion. Whether from a beloved horse that has passed or one that is still with you, horse hair creates a stunning, natural effect within the resin stone — a wearable tribute to your bond.
🤱 Breastmilk
Breastmilk jewellery has become increasingly popular as a way to commemorate the feeding journey. Breastmilk is preserved and set within the resin stone, creating a soft, milky appearance that is truly unique to you. It's a beautiful way to mark this chapter of motherhood.
🌸 Flowers & Botanicals
Dried flowers — from a wedding bouquet, a funeral arrangement, or a garden that holds special meaning — can be incorporated into your memorial stone. Petals, leaves, and small botanical elements add colour and texture to the design.
🌊 Sand, Soil & Other Meaningful Materials
I can also work with small amounts of sand from a special beach, soil from a meaningful place, or other fine materials that hold significance to you. Please contact me to discuss your specific inclusion before sending.
How to Send Your Inclusions
I offer a complimentary Inclusion Kit as an optional add-on. The kit contains everything you need to safely package your precious materials, including equipment and step-by-step instructions. You can post your inclusions to me, or arrange to drop them off at Bayles, Victoria.
Every stone I create is entirely unique — shaped by the inclusions you choose and the colours and effects we imagine together during your personal consultation or through our communications. No two stones are ever the same.
